Greetings Family and Friends,
We have arrived in San Cristobal! Sorry for the lack of communication for the past several days. We had been in an area without phone or internet service. We hope to catch you all up on our journey as well as our work. We also hope to have team members share their thoughts soon. On Friday, February 6 we had a short day of clinic. It is always a stressful first day as everyone settles into their roles on our team. In our short 4 hour clinic after arriving at Coapilla we traveled to San Juan Bautista and worked from 2 - 6 pm and served 43 patients. On Saturday after a wonderful breakfast at the convent, we traveled to Morelos which is about a one hour drive. We worked from 9 until 4:30 and served 105 patients. In the evening, there was a celebration with a marimba band and certificates of appreciation given by the Coapilla community to each team member. On Sunday we went to Patepec, a community we have served before. It is a beautiful location with old buildings The clinic was extremely good with 85 patients served on this beautiful sun-kissed day. On Monday, we traveled to Chenalho where we checked into our hotel. We then went to Llando Grande for a half day clinic and served 38. On Tuesday, we went to Yabteclum where we needed double interpreters- Tsotzil into Spanish and then into English and then back again. Very tedius but so rewarding. We served 79 patients. On Wednesday, we again traveled to Yabteclum for a second day of clinic. People traveled from about 20 villages over the two days there. We served 75 patients there and worked so hard. At the end, there was an emotional gathering where the people of the church - the community organizers gave short talks of appreciation and cried and asked us to please return as there are many more people in need. Today is a free day. Our tired team will enjoy the opportunity to rest and recharge our batteries in this beautiful place. The team is excellent. Each member is a valuable asset filling a need in our ability to serve these beautiful people. We will talk more about them later but we do want you to know that we are so grateful for each member who has given their time and talent. We are moved to serve! -Helen We have arrived. We did have a couple of stressful moments on the journey but we are all well and ready to serve. We will load everything and drive to our first clinic soon. It's a great team. Thanks for your prayers and support!
