Our travels went well on our journey to Guatemala. A very early start on Wednesday meant gathering at 2:30 a.m. for our drive to the Minneapolis airport. Our flight left at 5:50 a.m. and we flew to Miamia and then on to Guatemala City. Emily met us there, She is from Chicago and had another flight plan. The only glitch is that Sarah Davis is without her luggage, which we hope will be delivered soon. We then met our drivers, loaded our luggage into a pickup truck and journey by van to San Lucas which was another 3 hour journey. So, all in all it went very smoothly.
We are hearing of more snow and cold in Minnesota. The weather here is beautiful. It rainied as we traveled to San Lucas and lightning knocked out the power for a short while here but all is well. It is warm and has been beautiful. I am writing this before breakfast on Friday and the clouds are out today. It may clear off. We will see. Our clinic yesterday went very, very well. Our team worked together and everyone fell into their roles quickly. We went to the village of San Andres which is close to San Lucas, perhaps a ten minute drive in the back of a pickup truck. This village was flattened by a mudslide a few years ago and is one of the remarkable projects the San Lucas Mission has put much energy into. New homes and a new church present an uplifting environment. The people are warm, friendly and happy. Through the day they giggled, smiled and even played games with our team. It was a great day. We served 68 patients and saw a variety of ailments. Many complaints of pain, some infections, gastritis, dermatitis and so forth. Our team members worked with kindness and proficiency. I will write more about them later. Time to get to the rooftop for morning prayer. Blessings to everyone, Helen and the team |
